Like Flies to Honey?


Our customers are primarily dealing with how to get more business. They are trying things like web promotion, direct mail, print ads, and new technologies like video and pod casts. Those who are the most successful with these methods are the ones who understand precisely why their customers come to them. They concentrate on fulfilling needs that are most closely in line with their core competencies. They expand their products or services only to enhance their primary business - not to distract from it.

This concentration and caring comes through in their advertising. Their messaging is straight forward and on target, so potential customers are drawn to them like flies to honey. Here are some qualities these successful people have in common:

~They have a plan - they know the path their business must take to continue to be relevant to their customer.
~Their products are above average and their customers recognize them for it.
~They understand the value of steady and ongoing marketing in reaching their customers.
~They are on the same time cycle as they customers: they know when their customers need them and when to make their offer.
~They have some method of tracking and communicating with customers.
~They use simple language in their ads, writing the way they would talk to a customer in person.
~The customer identifies with their brand because of the symbolic message relayed through color, style and symbols.

In person-to-person relationships it is helpful to check our response to problems - are we reacting to issues when we should be addressing them? A good rule of thumb:

~avoid blame
~address problems directly
~always focus on solutions

Additionally, many people in leadership positions fear that admitting their mistakes is a sign of weakness rather than strength, when the opposite is actually true. Facing up to a mistake can be a great opportunity to demonstrate to others your ability to address things directly and confidently move on without wasting precious time.
