When Does Shared Marketing Work?
Teaming up with other companies whose products or services compliment your own is a great way to reach a larger number of new customers without increasing costs. Think about which businesses have a customer base that could expand yours and how you can help each other. Here are some ideas: |
- include brochures in each other's mailings
- share advertising space
- co-brand an event
- share a table at a trade show
- swap website real estate for special promotions and announcements
- keep business cards or brochures on display for customers
|
 |
Should you reserve additional extensions for your domain name?
Usually the primary extension for your industry or sector is adequate, unless: |
- it would bother you if someone owned "your-domain-name.net"
- someone could do damage to your business by having it
|
| In these cases you might consider reserving it. If you are future-thinking and have the budget, reserving additional domain extensions won't hurt - they may well become popular one day. |
|
| .com commercial - the most common extension, preferred by businesses |
| .net network - usually for hosting companies, ISPs or other web infrastructure organizations, now popular with businesses in general |
| .org organization - mainly for nonprofits or trade associations |
| .biz business - generally used for small businesses |
| .gov government - for use by government institutions |
| .info information - for resource sites providing information |
| .tv usually for rich content multi-media sites, popular with entertainment and media industries |
| .name an extension generally for personal use |

Everyone Markets!
Marketing extends to every single person in your organization, no matter what their job is - from the receptionist, your sales and management teams, to the people who deliver or service your product. If they don't believe in your business why should your customer?
|
When every employee believes that the customer comes first, your customers will know it too. Make respect for the customer a vital part of your corporate identity by instilling pride in the company, a strong sense of the image you wish to project, and the quantifiable value of customer satisfaction. |

What's the best way to ensure growth?
A regular marketing program. As any business owner or manager knows, a decrease in marketing today means a decrease in sales tomorrow.
Whether business is good or bad, don't stop marketing, but pause at year-end to take stock and renew your plan. Make sure your plan for this new and exciting year is effective and realistic, then go to it!
